Indoctrination

About INDOC

New members of the Regiment of Cadets participate in a 10-day program called indoctrination (INDOC). During INDOC, new members learn what it means to be a cadet at Maritime including the rules and regulations they are expected to follow, basic skills and knowledge for life onboard a ship, and becoming familiarized with fellow mariners under guidance (MUGs).

Each day of INDOC, new members will wake up early in the morning for physical training – running, strength training and other calisthenics. After breakfast, they will participate in a rotation of training on the Training Ship Empire State VI, college pool and around the campus waterfront. They will also attend sessions with regimental commanders, faculty and other campus leaders.

During INDOC, new members will live on the Empire State VI and will not be allowed to use cell phones or watch television. INDOC is very challenging, but upperclassmen and regimental officers are committed to helping new members make it through the program. While it’s not easy, it’s not impossible.

INDOC Begins on Friday, September 4, 2020

Indoctrination 2020 will observe the following format to complete the 10-day process:

  • 4 days - Friday, September 4 - Monday, September 7

  • 6 days - September 25-27 and October 16-18

This change has been made in light of the need for new incoming students to quarantine on-campus or within the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT, and any nearby states not on the New York restricted travel list) prior to the start of Indoctrination and the start of the semester.
